BEST OF TAMIL MOVIES FROM 2015 – A MOVIE ROUNDUP -

Following are the list of our favourite movies from 2015. The list is ordered based on the movie’s release dates and we are not rating as which one is the best,as each movie stands on its own as the best.
1. Rajathandhiram (A.G.Amid)

This heist movie from the debut director A.G.Amid and it is the first honest and thoroughly entertaining movie last year as the previous movies failed to stand the expectations. The movie was a straight forward one,with explaining the plot right at front. But,the movie was gripping holding us till the end with its wacky screenplay. The performances of Veera and R.J. ‘Darbuka’ Shiva performances were memorable.

2. Oh Kadhal Kanmani (Mani Ratnam)

Promoted on the lines of ‘Alaipayuthey’, the movie was filled with high expectation and Mani Ratnam din’t disappoint us with his deft story telling. Parallel love stories of current gen couple and an ageing couple was a perfect analogy.

Things That Stood Out:

The memorable sound track of A.R.Rahman and the performances of the lead casts (especially Nithya Menon and Prakash Raj) were amazing.

3. Uttama Villain (Ramesh Aravind)

Facing initial difficulties to its release,the movie was sort of a ‘meta-fiction’ of Kamal Hassan. The honesty with which his own story told (as actor) was the finest movie segment this year,especially the conversation between his son was classic. Though let down by a dragging second part, movie is by far the best among the recent movies from Kamal Hassan.

Things That Stood Out:

Amazing Original Sound Track from Ghibran and the cameo of the ace director ‘K.Balachander’ was fantabulous.

4. Kaaka Muttai (Manikandan)

The movie promoted and released with the reputation of international recognition and it din’t failed to impress. A breezy tale of two kids to get the pleasure of tasting their first pizza,on the way through they face the harsh reality,poverty and redemption.

Things That Stood Out:

Deft story telling and a master class performances from the kids. (rightly bagged the national awards for their performances)

5.Indru Netru Naalai (Ravikumar)

A time travel movie,sort of a first of its kind in tamil cinema and a simple tale that follows the protoganist getting hold of a time machine,small thing that he changes while dealing in the pat,leading to his cause of misery at present and how he overcomes.

Things That Stood Out:

Deft story telling,performance of Karunakaran (supporting act) and an engaging background score from hip hop tamizha.

6. Baahubali: The Beginning (Rajamouli)

The most talked about and highly talked about movie of this year. It was marked to be the most expensive movie, and lived to its grandeur. An epic historic tale of Mahendra Baahubali and Amarendra Baahubali, the later’s quest for his identity forms the story.Performances of Prabhas,Rana and Sathyaraj were memorable.

Things That Stood Out:

Ramya Krishnan’sperformance was stellar,couldn’t describe in words the way she carried out through out the movie. Truely Kickass.

7. Thani Ourvan (Mohan Raja)

The movie with not much hype or promotion until its release,but became a cult with vigorous social media feedback and positive word of mouth. The usual ‘Good vs Evil’ story plot but the deft screenplay and the political back drop made the movie stand out and tall..

Things That Stood Out:

Aravind Swami as Siddarth Abhimanyu was by far the’best-baddie’ performance and what a comeback too with an unforgettable,show stealer performance.

8. Maya (Ashwin Saravanan)

With almost truck loads of horror movies that released this year,this movie only made sense with a genuine story plot coupled with thrill factors and an amazing performance of Nayanthara as ‘Maya’.The movie’s success once again proving it ain’t the budget or the stars who feature,but the story is all it matters to make a good movie.

Things That Stood Out:

Amazing OST from the debutant Ron Ethan Yowan and deft story telling by the debutant Ashwin Saravanan.

9. Kirumi (Anu Charan)

The most under rated movie that gained strong critical acclaim. Right from its trailer release, the movie hints an urban youth who helps police authorities as informer and the troubles he undergoes. The movie din’t fail to promise too and portrayed the dark shades of police authorities,the difficulties one faces when struck between the authorities.

Things That Stood Out:

Performance of Kathir as the protagonist right from the start till the end and his charcterisation. A cameo from Charlie is worth mentioning.

10. Naanum Rowdy Thaan (Vignesh Shivan)

Come back of sorts for Vijay Sethupathy with this fun filled laughter riot from Vignesh Shivan.A youngster with the self proclaimed tag of ‘Rowdy’,son of a Police Woman (sounds funny right),along with his gang helps his lover to seek revenge of a ‘rowdy’,who killed her parents.

Things That Stood Out:

Performances of yesteryear villains like Anand Raj and Mansoor Ali Khan along with funny one liners from ‘RJ’ Balaji. and Partheeban as the bad ass villain was perfect.
