Must watch movies of Vijayakanth
Today is the birthday of actor Vijayakanth. He has now become the laughing stock to many due to his political stint and the movies he featured at the recent timings are the other big reason. But he is one of the actor who ruled the age where it was primary fight between Rajnikanth and Kamal Hassan. There was a period when he was the replacement to the Rajnikanth. This is a list of movies which showcased the talent of Vijayakanth. The movies are selected based on the different storylines and unique features it contained rather than the box office or any other metrics. These are personal views of me. So I would like to share some of the must watch movies of Captain Vijaykanth which you might have missed or a re watch would make your day.
5. Naane Raaja Naane Manthiri:
This movie stars Radhika along with Vijaykanth. Yes he is the villain in the movie. A Character with chauvinistic attitude and literally makes you hate him. Despite that his character is funny and comedy in few scenes makes you laugh. This kind of role is not easily portrayed by many at the period of 1985. Especially the music is awesome in the movie, my favourite number is Mayanginen Solla thayanginen of course written by Vaali.
4. Oomai Vizhigal:
Okay, obviously this is a movie no one can neglect in the 80s. The movie released in the 1986, was a result of the young people coming right from the film institute wanting to make a thriller. Vijaykanth portrays a role of a middle aged DSP in the movie. He was the peak of his career to do a role of a middle aged man with strands of silver hairs. Not only the performance is mesmerizing but also the movie is worth watching for its grippy screenplay and eerie music. Tholvi Nilayena ninaithaal crooned by P.B Srinivas is a classic one though.
3. Dowry Kalyanam:
This movie came in the year of 1983. It was the beginning of the career of Vijayakanth. He has done some good action roles under SAC and a movie released before year was Sattam Sirikkirathu. He chose to work with Visu in a typical Visu film. Yes, you heard it right, Visu has directed a movie with Captain in it. Of course Visu was also part of the movie. There he plays a drunkard widower along with Visu playing his friend. The movie also has S Ve Shekar, M. N. Nambiar and Visu regulars. This one is a must watch to see another Vijayakanth.
2. Nooravathu Naal:
This movie released in 1984 is a beautiful thriller written and directed by my favourite director Manivannan. This movie takes you to the edge of the seat for sure and the performance by Vijayakanth is commendable. I have included this movie because my personal favourite performances as a crew came from this movie. Be it Sathyaraj or Mohan or Nalini. Also this is a perfect example if you believed in the script totally rather than your own niceties.
1. Chatriyan
Obviously without an ounce of doubt this is by far the best movie of Vijayakanth. The perfect cope movie, revenge movie anything you state it comes under that. The meaner the villain merrier is the protagonist and Thilakan portrays it to the Tee. Written by Mani Ratnam and directed by Subhash this movie stands apart from the rest of the cop revenge movies. The movie is still known for the tight screenplay and the extra ordinary back ground score of Ilayaraja. Another piece to show why he is the king of background score.
Apart from these there are few movies that deserve to be in my honourable mention lists. Some of the must watch movies includes Pulan Visaranai, Thazhuvaatha kaigal, Vaidhehi Kaathirunthaal, Chinna Gounder, Ramana and Sattam oru Iruttarai. These are my personal choices to see the actor who deserves a lot than trolling.
